"BROKEN VOWS"

I can still remember that day, its so vivid and clear
I can even remember back to the month, and to the year
It was to be the happiest day of my entire life
The day that I got married to my darling wife
I thought that we would become a team like Laurel and Hardy
But in the real world, daily life can't always be one big party
And just as a rainbow is made up of a different colors and hue
So are we as people made up of a different opinion, and view
It's so easy to say we just can't get along anymore
Then to turn and run out, after slamming the door
Now I sit here remembering all of the good times we once had
And I can't help but wonder what came between us, that was so bad
These words keep coming back to me, and they won't leave my head
The for better or for worse, spoken by the preacher as he read
This bond shall not be broken as long as there's a chance for a life
Divorced only by paper, and broken vows are for some, a new start
But I'll love you forever, as long as there's a beat left in my heart
I wish you all the happiness in the world, and a long and fruitful life
But I just wanted you to know, that to me, you'll always be my loving wife

This poem is dedicated to SAILOR and that special day - October 28, 1990

"THE DOOR"

Before me stood a magic door
Like nothing I've ever seen before
There was no wall or building there
Just a door, standing in the air
I stood there for a moment or two
Wondering and asking myself, what should I do?
Is there something behind this door for me?
I must open it, and then I'll see
I opened the door to look behind
But it was too dark, like being blind
I must step inside if I am to know
And as I did, there came a glow
This glow came down from the sky
But was too bright for the normal eye
I turned and started for the door
But I must stay, there might be more
Then came a voice which said to me
Don't be scared, for you are free
Turn and look at me my son
And you will see that we are one
As I turned slowly toward the voice
I knew that I had made the right choice
For it was God who I could see
And now the glow, came forth from me
It was His kingdom behind the door
And where I'll be for ever more
Our souls have joined and now are one
My eternal life, has just begun
It was the earthly life, that I did part
But now I live within God's heart
Please do not weep the death of me
For in God's heart, we all are free

"DAWN"

You're my ray of sunshine, on a cloudy and dismal day
I could sit and listen to talk for hours, it doesn't matter what you have to say
Like a child on Christmas morning, filled with anxiousness, awe, and surprise
I just can't hardly wait until I see you again, and look into your beautiful hazel eyes
Like a clock with rundown batteries, and hands moving oh so slow, goes the beating of my heart
Seconds seem like minutes, and minutes seem like hours, whenever we're apart
You're the first thing I think about every morning, and the last thing every night
I just can't stop thinking about you, whenever you are out of sight
I'm crazy about you baby, every wrinkle, curve, and line
And if I had but just one wish, that would be to make you mine
Your friendship is the most precious thing to me, and you'll be forever in my heart
I thank God every day for bringing you into my life, and I pray that we'll never part
You are so beautiful and perfect in every way, like a dream come true
To make you happy and bring a smile to your face, is all I want to do!

The next few poems are personal favorites of mine, and I would like to share them with you. Some of them do not have an Author, and none of them, were written by me - Enjoy.

"WHEN"

When the snow is on the out-house
And the frost is on the seat,
And you're called by nature's duty
'Til you move with hurried feet;
You haven't time to shovel,
So you wallow through the snow
And you don't need a thermometer
To tell it's four below
You make a quick deposit,
Then grab a page or two
From last year's mail house catalog
(Or even corncobs do)
Then to the house and fireside
You beat a quick retreat,
When the snow is on the out-house
And the frost is on the seat.

When I was born,
I was Black
When I grew up,
I was Black
When I got sick,
I was Black
When I go out in the sun,
I am still Black
When I am cold,
I am Black
When I die,
I will still be Black

BUT, YOU.....

When you are born,
You are Pink
When you grow up,
You are White
When you get sick,
You are Green
When you go out in the sun,
You are Red
When you are cold,
You are Blue
When you die,
You are Purple

And you have the nerve to call me COLORED???

"MY LAST WILL"

My will is easy to decide
For there is nothing to divide
My kin don't need to fuss and moan
Moss does not cling to a rolling stone
My body? - Oh! If I could choose
I would to ashes it reduce
And let the merry breezes blow
My dust to where some flowers grow
Perhaps some fading flower then
Would come to life and bloom again
This is my last and final will
Good luck to all of you,
Joe Hill

(Joe Hill fought for organized labor)

Joe Hill was born on October 7th, 1879 in Gavle, Sweden, and he died on November 19th, 1915 at the age of 36 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Executed by the state of Utah for a murder most union people feel he never committed. The prosecutions case against him was based on circumstantial evidence, and today, any judge would throw the case out of court, on the grounds that there was no fair trail and that Joe Hill was never proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The AFL-CIO Executive Council has petitioned the Governor of the state of Utah, seeking a full and absolute pardon for Joe Hill.

"ENTER: THE DEVIL"

On the table a book there lay
Which Agrippa himself had been reading that day
The words were written with blood therein
And the pages were made of dead men's skin
The young man he began to read
He knew not what, but he would proceed
When there was heard a sound at the door
Which as he read, grew more and more
And more and more the knocking grew
The young man knew not what to do
But trembling in fear, he sat within
'Til the door was broke, and the devil came in
Two hideous horns on his head he had got
Like iron heated nine times red-hot
The breath of his nostrils was brimstone blue
And his tail like a Fiery serpent grew!

Mary had a little lamb
She took it to bed one night to sleep
The lamb turned out to be a ram
Now Mary has a little sheep!

"REJECTED"

A man stood at the gates of hell
As the devil himself, answered the bell
The devil looked him over from head to toe
And said, My friend I'd like to know
What you have done in the name of sin
To entitle you to come within?
Then Franklin D. with his usual guile
Stepped forth and flashed his toothy smile
"When I took charge in 33
The nations faith was mine," said he
I promised this and I promised that
And I calmed them down with a fireside chat
I spent their money on fishing trips
And fished from the decks of their battleships
They earned their money on the P.W.A.
Then I raised their taxes and took it away
I double crossed both the young and old
And still the fools my praises were told
I brought back booze and what do you think?
I taxed it so high, they couldn't afford to drink
I furnished money with government loans
When they missed a payment, I took their homes
I paid them to let their farms lie still
Then I imported food-stuffs from Brazil
I curtailed crops when I felt real mean
And I shipped in corn from the Argentine
When they'd start to worry, stew and fret
I get them to changing the alphabet
With the W.P.A. and the C.C.C.
With these many units I got their goats
And still, I crammed it down their throats
My workers worked with the speed of snails
While the tax payers chewed their fingernails
When the organizers needed some dough
I closed the plant for the C.I.O.
I ruined jobs and I ruined health
And I put the screws on the rich mans wealth
And some who couldn't stand the gaff
Would call on me, and how I'd laugh
When they got too strong on certain things
I'd pack and head for old Palm Springs
Now Franklin talked both long and loud
As the devil stood and his head he bowed
The devil said, "Lets make it clear
You'll have to move, you can't stay here
For once you mingle with this mob
I'll have to hunt myself a job".

Roses are red - pickles are green,
I love your legs, and what's in between
I love your style, and I love your class,
But most of all, I love your ass!

"WOULD YOU"

If in this world there were but two
And all the world were good and true
And if you knew that no one knew

Would You?

If you dreamed in pajamas blue
Of two strong arms embracing you
And if you really wanted to

Would You?

If all the world were nice and bright
And if I stayed with you all night
And if I turned out all the lights

Would You?

If we were in a certain place
And we were sleeping face to face
Nothing between us but a little lace

Would You?

Hell, Who Wouldn't!
